Is it possible to change the core plug at the back of a 1098 with removing the distributor? The oil pipe to the filter is also in the way and will have to be moved.

Not much room to swing a hammer - but worth a try.

Well the simple answer is no you cant! I took the oil pipe off first to try but couldnt even get enough room to get the old core plug out. I left the clamp in place on the distributor and took out the 2 fixing bolts. I then had plenty of room to get at it properly and give it a good tap home with a hammer.

At the same time I was changing the fan belt and thought the new one seemed very tight, too tight really. I then realised that the dynamo had a different type of adjusting bracket on it, much too long that was actually hitting the timing cover. I decided to put on a standard minor bracket from an old dynamo I had, then realised when it was put on it was fouling the fan blades on the dynamo....... So what I thought was going to be an easy fan belt change turned in removing the pulley and fan and putting another one on in place. I dont know what this dynamo has come off but it wasnt an ordinary minor one.
