ive done 4000 miles on this engine ,and i appear to have liquid sitting where the engine number goes .i had this on my agro my first car and it went like a train ,its just that my moggy does seem to struggle on hills and sounds a bit odd ,ive been told not to worry ,but ive had issues this year and have a nogging feeling at the back of my mind .ive run some holymer blue down the edge to stop ,or supress the leak .

Check that the head is torqued down enough, and the condition of the advance retard mechanism from carb to end result in the distributor plate moving.

Also make sure that the thermostat housing and top hose aren't leaking - I have often found water from those areas collecting as you describe. However, if other symptoms are present then certainly check for other problems too. A compression test would be a good idea.

head tourqued down correctally ,fixed leak from theromastat housing brand new dizzy on there with electronic ignition ,will go and get compression test done i think .

I had this on the 803 when it was in good health. A slight weep at the front of the head exactly where yours is. I got worried about it, checked the stud nuts etc, replaced by-pass hose to be on the safe side and it was still there. What made me worry most was the mayo on the oil cap - but it was winter then. It never used water or oil so I just forgot about it and carried on.

done a compression test for piece of mind and got 100 psi dry and 150 psi wet on all cylinders and no water leaks since i put holymor on the edge where the engine number is so im not going to worry baught a gasket to go in the boot and have a go myself if it goes only nuts and bolts after all .

Very poor compression readings....indicating badly worn rings/bores when they 'heal up' with a bit of oil added.......

Isn't this a 'new' engine Dale? Is it still under warranty, as if so you might invalidate it if you try fixing it yourself.

thats why im going to leave it alone louise,if it fails its going back on a , aa lorry ive got untill may till it runs out .

A 'new' engine should have MUCH better compressions than that. Can you check the gauge on another engine to make sure it's accurate? Was the engine definitely supplied to you as having been rebored - or was it just 'reconditioned' which can of course mean anything.......
Just to make sure - compression checks should be made on a hot engine (after a good run - not just a few minutes idling) - all spark plugs removed and the throttle held open. Churn the engine or a good 5 seconds on each bore.......

If it was mine I'd ring them and inform them what was going on and that I was not happy. It should be fixed under warranty. Don't leave it Dale.
