Tourer to Saloon

For those who have taken delivery of a morris minor tourer although they would have preferred a saloon, or who have been influenced by the british climate into changing their minds about open cars, a saloon conversion is available. It consists of a roof and back panel unit, made of heavey gauge aluminium with guttering on the edges and with substantial sealing at the points where the new roof joins the back of the body and the convertible - type top screen rail of the minor tourer. The inside of the roof has the appearance of fawn suede and the outside is cellulossed to match the rest of the car. The makers are stream lines ltd, main road, far cotten, northhampton, and the conversion is stated to take seven days at their works. At present conversions within the standard price of £85 applies only to 1949 models only.
This looks to be a perminant change rather than a winter alternative to a soft top to me. Wonder if there are any converted tourers tucked away anywhere, would be a real rare find.
So has anyone done or attempted to do a removable hard top for a minor?

An interesting conversion. That was a hell of a lot of money in those days, almost a fifth of the car's new price. Were many sold? Not many it would seem. Are any converted cars left? I doubt it.

It's usually the other way round when chassis no. checks are being made, to ensure a tourer is indeed a genuine tourer. Nobody would check to see if a 2-dr was indeed a genuine 2-dr. And a lowlight at that. Must be rare.

I am still looking for information on hardtops and read on the other site that 2fry from this site had one on his minor. I have done the search thing but not found it. Anyone point me to the pics/thread?

The SMM chassis code (1948-52) did not identify body types, to find that info you would have to check the Gaydon records

I am more interested in a hard top that someone may have made and uses on their tourer. A bit like the spitfire or midget ones that uses a removable hardtop in the winter and a soft top in the summer.
