If the vehicle is just being used as a "moveable prop" off road then it doesn't need to have an MOT and can display any number it likes. I don't think they bother to go into whether the number is right for the year of manufacture!

I had G reg plate put onto my 56 traveller when it was used for filming in Breakfast on Pluto, I did tell the guy that it wasnt right and he said that it was supposed to be about 1971 and that its proper number was too old!
You cant actually see the fake number in this but this is when it was in the the Limelight.........

Also been used in Five minutes of Heaven, Best his Mothers Story, a local current affairs programme were it had a fake bomb in the boot and one or 2 other TV film things that dont spring to mind at the moment
