Headlamp ring

Post by stag36587 »

I am stripping front wings on my 1967 saloon. They have 4 x captive nuts which I believe are there to take long headlamp adjuster screws? The existing nuts are completely seized and no amount of heat and lubricant is helping them so I hope to open up the captive nut cages and replace the nuts. Can anyone tell me what size the nuts are anywhere to get hold of them?

Thanks

The 4 captive nuts are more likely to be the ones that hold the headlamp bucket in place, generally the older cars have 3 adjusting screws and the later type has only 2. More often than not you have to drill out the screws, I think they are 2ba. It is easier to have the proper captive nuts in place but I have also used used small nuts and bolts to replace them. I was working on a front wing today, managed to get 3 of these undone, so i was quite pleased!

Rather than messing around with rusty headlamp bowls, why not fit new non rust plastic bowls and later rims with 2 screw adjusters?
