lowering the front end

i have a 1961 1000 2 dr.....i know there are torsion bars as part of the front end,,,,,,,what do i have to do to lower it
it just sits too high? any help would be greatly appreciated thanx chuck[frame]

Do a search on here, plenty of threads about how to do it! Basically knock off, turn round one spline.

But it looks just right in that picture....... Lowering just smashes the bump stops up through the inner wings...........

There are two parts to the height adjustment for the front suspension:
There is a vernier plate at the rear of the torsion bar, where it connects on to the cross member. Each hole will lower the side by 1/4", but if it is already at or near the lowest setting, you will need to move the lever arm by one spline, which lowers it by 1 1/4", and then make the fine adjustments on the vernier. This does assume that it is all pretty rust free, otherwise it is a rather difficult job.
The bump stop must be in place, and if you are lowering the suspension, you will need to cut off the end of the bump stop and reshape it to restore the tapered profile.
Also the front dampers must be in good condition, or you will run the risk of damaging the inner wing. As you can see ours is lowered by about 2", and this was done 40+ years ago. No damage to anything in all that time! Originally the lever arm dampers were filled with SAE40 grade oil and then 14 years ago I fitted Koni telescopic dampers and removed the valving from the lever arms.

I think that if it had correct wheels, trims, and tyres on it would look fine. Wheels from the Fisher Price collection are always a risk, visually.

I assume you don't drive your Minor over too many speed bumps or pot-holed roads Richard! And - have you not said in the past that you fitted higher rating T bars ??

We have speed bumps in our village, so a very common experience and we are currently in Spain taking part in the MSA Euroclassic, where there are plenty of 'imperfections' on the smaller roads the run tends to use!
Since its restoration in 1998, it has had Marina van torsion bars, but from 1970, when the wide steel 13" wheels were fitted and the car was lowered, to the start of the restoration in 1992, it ran on standard torsion bars, with cut down bump stops. The front dampers were filled with engine oil from a fairly early stage, and could have been from around 1970 as well.

It looks like its sitting exactly right to me. But sorry, those wheels are awful

Exactly - with a driver and passenger on board it will be nicely matching the rear, which is if anything a bit low!

The wheels aren't pretty for sure. Here in the the Pennines a good ground clearance is essential.

Interesting 'name tag' too. Except for the speling. There is a very nice Porsche911T on ebay at the moment.....

Be nice! I'm not a fan of the wheels either but then I don't like anything but standard or slotmags...
It's not the kind of modification that ruins the car though! Easiest thing to change. If he likes it who cares, we can give him a better welcome to the forum...

i have already changed to minitor wheels , those wheels came on the car....i will postt new pics chuck
