Old type water heater tap

Hi chaps,

does anyone know what diameter the old style heater tap is? I've changed the original cable type heater valve on my '69 4 door to the older style tap when fitting the 1275cc engine. The BMC workshop manual I have lists 2 shims, one of 0.014 in , the other 0.028 in. I need to fit a shim or washer under the tap as it's now pointing too far into the battery box and is likely to unscrew under the pressure of the heater hose.

Regards

John

They are the 'Official' BMC way on getting the early heater tap outlet to point in roughly the right direction! Pt No. ACA 5173 Shim 0.014" and ACA 5172 Shim 0.028".

I never knew until this post that they were 'Official', have just used a selection of copper washers in the past to achieve the same result.

Going back to the original question, I think the thread is either 3/8" BSP (0.656" o/d) or maybe 5/8" UNF, but I think it is 3/8" BSP. Mine is all together so I cannot get to measure it.

I made an adapter to turn the tap using base plates from the earlier taps. I think I got the idea from Declan
