Hello all, here is my Minor (Yoda) i have finally managed to get enough time to release the brakes and get it outside for some pictures, in the process of sorting the garage roof and doors out ready for a full strip down resto in hopes to enjoy and make a decent job of it......time will tell.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

thanks bob i am hoping there is not too much more lerking beneath also but whatever i find it'll be put right either by me or someone else if i am unable, going to have to get some more lighting if i hope to take pictures in there too it's pretty dark even with the light on ha ha

Hello again, it's been a while since i have posted but now the garage is sorted and dry, new garage doors done and i have a few tools i have now began to strip out the interior to have a look see what i am dealing with here, lighting is terrible in the garage at the moment but i will try and get some photo's of it.

i have all the seats out
carpets out
sun visors removed as i kept hitting my head on them
moved spare tire moved and will remove the boards in the boot when i can chisel/grind the screws off as the heads are rusted and cannot get anything on it

basically i have a pretty small budget at the moment and doing what i can with it, i will be taking the engine and gearbox out hopefully on the 10th of march i am super busy until then. i keep getting calls from my Dad who is chomping at the bit to get stuck in with the engine and gearbox so i will try and hold hi back and get pictures along the way.

sorry for going on and to report such little progress but will get pictures and post them up for you guys.

Well that is all the pics i have for now, struggling a little with uploading multiple pics, have resized them but unsure how to upload many in one post without uploading each pic and editing the post and adding another and so on and so forth but i am sure i'll get the hang of it before long.

Can I suggest you remove and store the door cards and the handles and window winders (handles etc in food bags) as these are very expensive to replace and can easily get damaged by sharp tools/angle grinders

that's great advice, i have many tubs of various sizes including what seems like a million SMA milk tins but hadn't thought of the food bag idea, i shall be sure to take that advice and remove them when i next tackle yoda (hopefully soon)

Good advice re storage...once you get going with power files and angle grinders, etc the molten metal starts flying around.If glass, soft trim and the good paint work aren't protected sufficiently then permanent damage occurs.

Stick any "dismantling notes " i.e how it came apart ...in with the relevant bags / tins, so when the time comes you'll know how it goes back together again.
Most people like to clean the parts as they take them off, before they " bag and tag ".That way you can spot the broken/ suspect parts early...obtaining/ replacing/ repairing in good time for re-assembly.Others are happy to have a mass cleaning session and are methodical enough to know which parts go where, not muddling them up !
Your garage is marginally wider than mine, so you will be fine.Just plan your welding days outside, when the weather is fine like I had to.

again great advice with the cleaning on removal i think that method might be the best for me either that or take my time in putting everything back together at the end at take it a piece at a time with numbers to reference which bag of bits is to what.

i have a A4 book that i am writing in with anything broken or how it comes apart with numbers in the column regards the bits and astrixes for the broken items, but i guess by cleaning as i go will spot far more then leaving and possibly rushing at the end, i hope that made sence to you all.

the interior is the easy bits so i think when the trickier bits come to pieces i am thinking loads of pics or maybe video.

Another suggestion is use a digital camera to record how things come apart. Invaluable when refitting

got y digital camera on the go already which taking pics is fine but the video might be a bit dark as i have only 1 strip light in there that lights where the boot of the car is and a normal house lamp with a pathetic 20w bulb at the mo, need to get a clip lamp/lead lamp whatever you call them and some more strip lights in the garage but it's all cost so will have to wait for now.

i think i might be able to get by with a decent bulb in my household lamp and my digital camera, although i have take super good care of it since i bought it in 2004 and am looking to replace it i don't want to get it oiled up and grotty until i have a replacement, any ideas on how to keep it clean....? other then washing my hands before each photo or disposable gloves perhaps.

Thanks irmscher, as i am sure most people will have done, the more i strip back the more i find needs putting right, but then again that is part of the fun of a minor i am guessing and starting to realise that they are never actually "done"

a little more done today as mentioned before i have removed the door cards and pull etc. i found that the drivers door lifts at the point it closes and the cause is the fact that the sill and A post are rotten and spread to some of the floor panel, hopefully all will be replaced and the door will then shut properly and if not then i'll just have to take it to bits and do it again

Scott if you are doing the job dont forget to jig the car up first

Yes i sure will, brace the chassis where i can with timber axle stands and jacks and measure, measure and measure again and keep measuring as i go, hopefully all will stay in shape.

thanks for the reminder about jigging could be expensive learning curve without.

Well i took all the trim out of the car, door cards and the window winders etc, and then as arranged my Dad came round to show me how easy the engine and gearbox comes out....famous lasts words it too ages but very enjoyable here a few shots and i apologise that they're is only a few[frame][/frame]
Getting there, got the front panel off and radiator[frame][/frame]
Made a bit of space, but where did it go...on the floor it rather heavy[frame][/frame]
right after i had a slurp of tea, now to tackle the gearbox complete with crossmember as it wasn't playing nice[frame][/frame]
much better and then just put the gearbox by the engine for the time being, i really need to get the shelves up in the house and make some more room in my garage[frame][/frame]
and that's all i have for now, won't be much happening for a little while now as i have a minor operation, nothing serious but i have been told to do nothing
