Coolant Bypass hose

If I read things right, bmcecosse isn't a fan of the bypass hose. Do you recommend blocking it off? How would I do that? Do the stubs on the head and pump unscrew and get plugged?
The bypass allows coolant to circulate, bypassing the thermostat. That would mean longer time to warm up. What are the advantages of no bypass other than quicker warm up?
