We've been proud Moggy owners since Wednesday He's a bit rough around the edges, got an appointment with a welder on Tuesday and we're looking forward to a rolling restoration providing he gets through the MOT next month.
A quick question about the indicator stalk in a 1969 MM 1000. It works but needs to be held in place 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time it holds it's place until put back into the neutral position. Does anyone have any advice on how to get it to stay where it ought to?
The indicator stalk is self-cancelling and there's a peg which needs to locate on some 'lugs' in order to ensure that the stalk stays up/drops down. Sounds like yours needs adjusting and details of how to do this are in this thread (remember to disconnect the battery first):
It's not a hard job at all once you're in it, but it looks daunting beforehand. The hardest part is finding a suitable socket for the steering wheel nut (I know some people say use a cold chisel on it, but I dislike that for its inelegance).
The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!

Hi Mook! Welcome to the wonderful world of Moggies! If you're anywhere near Leicestershire I ahve the right size socket for the steering wheel nut and would be delighted to help. Regards,
Bob
If you cant get a socket and dont want to use a chisel, use a centre punch and a hammer to remove the nut. Also when putting the steering wheel back on smear some oil on the splines, it helps if you ever need to remove the steering wheel again.

Opinions are like people, everyone can be different.
not sure if it is covered in the other thread but when removing the wheel leave do not completely remove the nut as it will stop the wheel flying off and hitting you in the face / chest when it does finally move
On the subject of indicator stalks - has anyone ever tried to dismantle and re-wire one of these? Mine works fine apart from the little lamp at the end under the green cover. I've tried replacing the bulb, which didn't help.
Have the same non-cancelling issues - it does what it should about 95% of the time! I've just got used to it and remember to cancel it myself now, although a buzzer does seem like a nice idea

The chap who does my MOT tells me that the stalk bulb not working is a failure, to be fair to him he is not a more than my jobs worth type and said get one sorted, which I did.
I've been told the same thing about needing a warning light to pass MOT. The previous owner got around the original stalk light not working by fitting a loose indicator bulb in the driver's glove box! Problem is, looks awful though
