I bought a 1098 Midget engine for £20 some years ago from ebay with a view to refurbing it when compressions and oil pressure on Betty our 1965 OEW convertible became low. Approaching that point now so started to strip down and puzzled/pleasantly surprised to find the main bearings are 2".
As nice as that is, it rather changes my views as to the spec I will rebuild it too as it seems a waste to build it to MM 1098 tune.
The head is a standard 12g202, cam is unidentified 3 bolt pin drive with 1/2" lobes, the flywheel that came with it is special to the 10cc I believe. So a few q's:
1) Where can I get replacement main bearings?
2) Can't find a comprehensive website to id cams - although Calver is good for heads (http://www.calverst.com/cc110f.htm)
3) Don't want a buzz box as prefer torque so which cam/valve/carb selection would help deliver that - yes I know all about 1275 torque but don't have one.
4) The 12g202 head that I have is similar to the 12g295 re valve sizes with slightly smaller inlet valve size and cc volume so is it worth the hassle of buying a 295? I know about the 12g940 too but don't want to mess with pocketing the block.
5) Has anyone fitted one of these kits as I'm tempted:

Re: Midget 1098 10cc engine
Indeed the 1098 midget engine does have the 2 inch mains, as you've found. Very handy for coping with a bit more power.
If you haven't already, I heartily recommend getting David Vizards 'Tuning the A Series Engine' book. It's very handy for info on how to get the best out of what you've got, or what to do to get an engine that performs as you wish.
There is also good information in there about identifying components, including cam shafts.

Use 1275 main shells (NOT the A + type) . The head should be a 206 if it was on a Spridget -are you sure it's a 202 ? The MG Metro cam is the one to go for - and - no need to pocket the block - just sink the 940 exhausts in to the head (you may not need to do anything) until you have 340 thou clearance. The 940 head is BY FAR the best bet.
