wipers

Hi all
Can anyone please throw light on this?
The wipers work at what seems a normal speed most of the time. Every now and then they will speed up by about 30%, then gradually slow back to normal speed. It doesn't seem to be when the screen gets wetter or drier. They will sometimes slow when decelerating, but again not always. The car is a 1968 2 door, with 1275 marina engine and an alternator conversion, the battery is also in good condition.
Any ideas as to the cause please?

All the usual stuff - lubricate the spindles with oil and regrease the rack, the drive gearbox and the wheelboxes. Very possibly needs new brushes in the motor too.

Is it by any chance a two speed motor?

seems to be a variable speed motor..... only one switch position. Of course it might have been modified with "smart" electronics and sensors well hidden in the motor casing.
Also has a very good intermittent wipe function, but only when my better half is sitting next to me....
