Hello all, just thought id introduce myself!

I should hopefully be coming into possession of a green 2dr morris in the next couple of days after selling my first car.

I have two questions currently!

1) To access the members only area of the site ( I have just this minute registered ) do I have to wait for the members pack to arrive first? It was requiring a code from the minor matters magazine, I assume I must get this being a member?

2) I have been browsing the messageboard for posts regarding insurance, f&j seem to popular choice? I am only 21 and despite my previous insurer giving me a ridiculous quote, they don't offer classic car insurance to the U25's. I do know about the classic car insurance program for over 25's but was surprised that they wouldn't offer me anything classic car related!

I have had a quote from f&j and wondered if this would be the best route to pursue?

Yes the password will be in the magazine which you should receive shortly. This will change each time Minor Matters comes out - 6 editions a year.

Hello all, I'm another new member. My most recent clunker has just failed its MOT and I am considering realising my lifelong dream and replacing it with a moggie. My reservations are:

1) I am not good with mechanical things (they didn't cover cars in girls' grammar school) and would struggle with the simplest repair.
2) I have no garage, only an off road parking space. Rust is more of a concern than crime.
3) I can't afford to spend more than about £4000 on a car. Could I get something in decent shape for this kind of money?
4) The car would need to be usable as an about-town car with occasional longer trips, although my overall mileage is only around 2000 a year.
5) The name. Would Horace, Boris or Doris just be too much of a cliche?

Should I hold off on my dream until I have at least a garage to stash my moggie in?

Kittycat, don't put it off, £4K should get you a decent car and you won't lose so much in depreciation as you would with a modern car. You really need a garage if you want a traveller, a saloon will be fine, repair bills won't be much if you only do 2000 miles a year. Just find a local garage who are used to working on older cars and get them to service, check and MOT it yearly.

As for insurance buy any classic car mag and you will see lots of companies that may be of use to talk to.
Moggies are great for learning car basics and they have loads of fix it your self jobs for the beginner to the master/mistress of the spanner.

Call your car by what ever name you like,mine is" Froggie the Moggie" cause it's green
