Poly bushes

I have replaced all the bushes on my moggy with poly ones as the rubber ones were tired. However they all now squeak especially when going over speed humps, seems to be coming from the front rather than the rear. Should they squeak? The old rubber ones although knackered didn't squeak?

Did you grease them well during fitting?

If so, just ignore it, it should go away after a few miles.

If not, I'd rub a bit of grease around them in the hope that it works its way in to the joints with movement.

Not sure wether oiling them is a good idea, I'm sure someone will be along to say soon...

White grease seems to be the best for poly bushes. Best applied during fitting, but aerosols with a 'straw' nozzle can be used to aim grease into the joints. It may work its way in, if it works, hurrah. If it doesn't, it's not much effort wasted trying that first!

ah ok I was told not to grease or oil them when fitting, I only used a light amount of silicon lubricant to aid pushing them in but I didnt grease them.
I dont want to have to take all the suspension apart again so I will try and get some spray grease in there and hope it works its way in.

Take it for a good bumpy drive after doing so. I'm not sure where you are but, if your roads are anything like they are in Devon, any B road will do.

Yes - spray grease will help. A poly bush I bought recently came with a sachet of 'special grease' . Note the suspension should only be tightened up with the car on the ground. Perhaps worth slackening everything - spraying in the grease - then set it on the ground and retighten.

Yeah I know you have to let everything take up its natural position and then tighten up which is what I did. I wonder what the "special grease" was?

Dunno! Didn't use it...... No need - it's just a bulkhead pass-through for the steering column on my TR7.

Well, mine squeaked terribly until I pulled them apart again and covered them with red grease (same as used on brake cylinders). They were silent for a time and now have a small amount of noise. I think it's just the nature of them.

I plan to replace my eybolt bushes with poly ones, could you use Copperslip when fitting? I would have thought white grease may be a tad thin in consistency and may not last as long as copperslip.

Ours came from Superflex and were fitted in 1998 as part of the restoration. At that time no grease was supplied and I think positively 'not recommended' either. The front has always creaked slightly going over speed bumps, and still does, but otherwise they are all in excellent visual condition (the eye bolt bushes were last checked 2 years ago) and have covered 44,000 miles in 14 years.
