what is it

Hi, I have a 1967 traveller and I just noticed a thin metal plate that maybe someone could tell me what it is. It is a narrow strip of metal about 4 inches long and about a half inch wide, screwed into the bulkhead almost at the top on the right side of the engine compartment. It is straight up from where the wiring loom for the fuel pump and wiper motor comes through. It has numbers punched into it on the right and left sides. It's not my chassis number. Thanks for any help.

It is indeed the body number. Chris POMMReg can explain, he collects them

Here is a picture. Is a body number different from a chassis? My chassis number is on a plate on the other side of the bh. Thanks.[frame]

Yes it is different, POMMReg seems to be the only person who understands the system

'Z36054' denotes a '66-'71 Traveller.
2nd series of nos. is the body nos. which enables you to year date the vehicle.
Time consuming, but not complicated!
Les, your inside leg measurement please?
Pit of moribund mumbojumbo
