Type 9 gearbox oil

Post by jaguar68 »

Hi chaps,

many moons ago I bought a reconditioned type 9 gearbox from JLH. Reading various posts on the web I've discovered that this type of 'box doesn't have a drain plug as they were designed to to lubricated for life.

Does anyone know if a reconditioned gearbox will be filled with oil, or am I being paranoid and need to whip off a cover and satisfy my curiosity?

Regards

John

Roy, you are right. I don't want to wreck the 'box for the want of taking the filler plug out.

It doesn't have a drain plug, but it has a filler plug!

And that filler plug is like the minor back axle. You just fill it up until you get oil running down your arm. Then it's full!

Chris, I noticed my mistake about the filler plug after checking the 'net again. Just been out and spent 20 quid on gearbox oil so i can satisfy my curiosity :)
