Hi Chaps,
can anyone tell me the amount of endfloat there should be on a standard 1098cc camshaft? At the moment (without chainwheel and tensioners fitted) it seems to be about 1/4 inch.
Regards
John

Re: Camshaft endfloat
I'm not sure of the right figure except that's WAY too much.
Has it been rebuilt without the trust washers (They go on each side of the centre main bearing) ?.
Oops, that's for the crankshaft, not the camshaft
Is there a lot of wear on the camshaft retaining plate, I think I turned mine round when I rebuilt my engine.

there's minimal wear on the retaining plate, just a polished ring. The thing is the retaining plate is fitted after the front engine mounting plate and the end of the camshaft is slightly recessed from that. It does seem to be an awful lot of movement, but I can't see anything missing.

Re: Camshaft endfloat
I've resorted to looking in the book!
All I can find is that the camshaft endfloat is taken on the retaining plate, no measurements at all.
Nothing is going to push the cam so it isn't an issue I guess.

You can only measure it WITH the sprocket fitted and the nut pulled up tight........ It should be no more than 2 or 3 thou.
