Hi Chaps,
can anyone advise me on the thermostat housing on the big valve 12G940 head. I've tapped out all of the threaded holes in the head to clean out any rust and contaminants and refitted new studs. However, when I go to refit the new thermostat housing, I find that it will only fit one way, ie at 90 degress to the head. When I tried to turn it round so that it runs parallel to the block, in the usual Minor orientation, the housing doesn't fit, the holes are in the wrong place.
Is this due to the fact that the head was originally used on the transverse metro engine or is it another part of the conspiracy?
Regards
John

John,
The answer depends on what you want the final appearance to look like. The best, in my opinion, is to get hold of a thermostat housing from a 'B' Series engine, which with a little opening out of the holes, will fit the inline engine and 12G940 head. That way a standard Minor top hose, with a bit of stretching over the 'B' Series housing, looks exactly the same as a standard Minor.
There are other ways of doing it, and I'm sure others will be along to describe it.

As above - or you can just use a curved length of hose - cut from an old bottom house works well.

thanks guys. ESM do a curve radiator top hose for use with the 127 engine, so I guess that's the reason.
