'Coopers' Sticker position

Howdy,

I've just finished refurbishing an air filter housing for 'Borris'...

So now it's nice and pretty, I thought I'd finish it off with the proper 'Coopers' sticker.

Does anyone know where it would originally be positioned? I'm not particularly a stickler for originality (it's not even the right filter for the age of the car!) but if I'm putting the sticker on, I want to do it right.

If you look at the filter from above (looking like a cam lobe) with the peak at 12 o'clock, should the sticker be directly opposite, at 6 o'clock? Do I fit the filter in its 'winter' position with the inlet over the manifold then put the sticker perfectly on the what becomes the top?

Was it even a standard position in the factory? Or did the tea-boy just get the job of slapping them on willy-nilly?

I've since found this pic of a concours vehicle, which might answer my own question.

Knowing an ex BMC workshop foreman many years ago. (T C Harrison Hull) He told me that the cars left the factory with them fitted in case the dealer had to remove the engine before delivery to a customer. But they were removed before the customer took delivery. Each mechanic had his own personel set, if a customer came in and wanted some they would give them away and the rest laid around in boxes until the dealer went bust in the early 90's. The factory said they didn't want them back as they were deamed single use only. Know wonder B L went bust so many times.

Hi Chris, me too, the stickers been sitting in the glovebox since I purchased it from ESM. Bit the bullet and just like the other tea boy you mentioned, stuck it on. I'm never going to enter my Alice for any sort of competition, you'd hear the laughter from the National all the way to Longbridge, but I hope it weathers in ok, looks a little conspicuous in a daily use motor.[frame]Image[/frame]
