Ok chaps,
silly question time. how do you seal the oil pipe union where the adaptor screws into the filter head? I'm assuming that it does need sealing, even in just from a good engineering practice point of view.

John

PTFE tape or loctite sealant. Theoretically, the tapered bit doesn't require anything.

Aha, I had thought of PTFE tape. I didn't realise it was a tapered thread

It's been a while since i looked at one, but i have a feeling the boss into the filter head is tapered. Where the link pipe goes on to the boss is just a normal thread, but the pipe is flared like a brake pipe, so really it shouldn't need sealing on either.

Don't overtighten it or you'll split the filter head.

At the end of the day it's far better to just nip things like this up then, if they leak, nip them up a little more.
Breaking stuff tends to be a PITA!
