Series Two Seatbelts.

Hi All,
Thinking of fitting front static seat belts to Jethro but does anyone know if there are enough solid mounting areas to fit a three point static belt.
I am sure the sill and tunnel areas would be OK to weld in a captive nut and plate for the lower fixings but what about the shoulder level point for the third mount?

I thought about this myself and it seems the only place is on the rear side window frame/sill just behind the door (I think convertibles had it in the same place and later 2 doors?)
Looking at a later 2-dr will confirm.

P.S. Inertia-reel are much better. Whatever you fit make sure they are brand new and not taken from the local scrappy.

Early 2 door seat belt instalation.
Use inertia belts, static belts are a waste of time

except if its a four door, then you need to mod the area where the trafficators fit,but that area is not very strong.

Would you believe it - I climbed into the back of the car this afternoon and lo and behold I found seat belt mounting holes top and bottom cunningly disguised with black rubber grommets on both sides.
Seems like Jethro had belts fitted at some time and they were removed possibly when he was renovated.

They may have been factory fitted holes, were not some export areas demanding seat belts even in the 1950s so it was easier to make the bodies with the holes and blank off the UK bodies ?

Yes I guess that is a possibility, very handy to have the holes ready made!

I very much doubt if the holes were factory fitted in a Series 2

You're right I think Mike,
The series two is pretty spartan - even the "Deluxe" models like Jethro.

If you do go the inertia reel way, which I have and recommend, make sure you get reels that can be adjusted for the angle they sit at, as evident in the photos.
