Hi can anybody tell me if this can be done at home without being an expert in triganometry etc,Both front wheels are wearing badly onthe outside.

Yes indeed - simple gauge can be made with Dexion angle (or even timber). Prop it on bricks touching front half side wall of one tyre at hub height - and on the other side measure the gap with a 6" steel rule. Then swap the gauge round now running under the car - and now touching the rear part of the tyre sidewall - and again measure the gap. Compare readings. Do the whole thing again to see if you get the same result. Should be 1/8" toe IN. ie front gap should be 1/8" less than the rear gap. Adjust both tie-rods equally to correct any error.

First of all check the obvious - tyre pressures (radials I understand need higher press. than quoted in the book).

Swap the tyres to the rear wheels and even take them off the wheels and reverse sides, after tracking is done.

Last time I took my car for the tracking to be checked professionally it came out worse than before because "it wasn't listed on the computer".
