Split screen A series 803 speedo cable lubrication

I would much appreciate some help on how to do this. Can I undo the end under the car and use WD40 or other oil or should I undo and pull out the inner cable grease and push back in? Concerned that if I do the latter it might not engage in the back of the dial correctly.
Any thoughts and help please.
Thanks Adrian

Hi,
I would lubricate it after removing it from the speedo head as the oil will run down the inner cable far easier, (much more difficult to oil uphill) unless of course you have completly removed the cable from the car? Just use as little light oil as possible as too much may get into the speedo head and damage it.

Under no circumstances oil the first 8" of cable running from the speedo head as oil will work its way up and foul the speedo.

Thanks, I was trying to avoid having to remove the dash board in order to get at the speedo head and remove the cable at that end. Not done it myself but understand that this is not easy to do. I had a feeling that oil near the head was a bad idea. I think I will try removing the cable from the other end and running a little oil in. Any knowledge of pulling the inner core out leaving the sleeve in place?
Thanks again to all..........
Regards
Adrian

I suggest grease rather than oil - wipe over with a greasy cloth will be sufficient. Perhaps a new inner would be a good idea?

If it's working fine just leave it alone would be my advice.

Indeed! I'm assuming there must be a problem - or the Q wouldn't have been asked !

No problem removing dash, two bolts underneath to remove the cover panel and three screws to remove the inst. panel. Unscrew the cable from the back of the speedo and pull the inner cable out. Five mins max.
To replace the inner cable twist until the collar at the top drops into the outer cable

Most helpful information. The cable has started to make a rubbing noise and this coincided with a more than usual sluggish movement of the speedo needle so I am sure that it needs a bit of lubrication. Like most of these things once you have done it once at all seems so easy!! Clarence is based in North Hampshire are any of you near by?
