Ongoing suspension overhaul

Having finished the overhaul on the o/s front as per my other posts, I have now stripped out the n/s .With all the parts on the bench the bottom of the king pin looks really good and also the bottom trunnion , my question is the top trunnion thread on the king pin although not badly worn it is rusty and also so is the top trunnion thread I have wired brushed the king pin thread but cannot remove all the rust .Will it be ok to grease up and reassemble or will the rusty surface cause me future problems

Rust obviously not good.....when you re-assemble - is there any 'play' in the swivel?

Obviously it depends how badly the rust has eaten the threads but, if it is just surface rust, and if there is no play I'd be tempted to give it a good grease and put it back together.

There is a small of play when the trunnion is pulled as if rocking the wheel top to bottom but no play on the side to side action , I know it is not the full answer reference the thread form but with a micrometer the bottom section of thread is .006" down on the outside diameter , so I will grease it right up and refit keeping a close watch on it

Thanks for the advice

Top trunnions not known to 'pull out' - but may rattle - and be a fail at MOT.

Thanks for the info the car passed an MOT less than 400 miles ago so I presume it was within limits so as my previous post I will reassemble Thanks again for the replies
