3.9 diff

hi i have just put in a 3.9 diff in my morris because i have a 1275 engine in the car is making a winding noise but it made the noise before with the old diff in my morris would it be the gear box noise thanks ian

Almost certainly, is there oil in it?
Does it happen at all speeds, on or off the power?

yes i have put oil in the diff and in the gear box it happen at all speeds on when you give it power thanks ian

If it made the noise before - and still makes the same noise after a final drive change - it can't be the final drive making the noise..... Most likely the gearbox - but do check there is some free play in the clutch operation.

Does it whine in 4th, as well as the other gears? If it does it is unlikely to be the gearbox. Can you locate the direction, front or rear?
