Hi guys,

2 questions. The first is how to remove the door skins (panels on the front doors)? I was told to remove the brightware, but when taking out the screws, the handle, window winder etc didnt come off???

2nd question is as I was waxoyling behing the rear panel skins (2 door saloon), the waxoyl 're-moistured' an existing black tar like substance that had been brushed on probably a long time ago. Just wondering what this black tar was? If it was soundproofing of some sort, would the waxoyl do anything to it?

1st answer--Pull the handles after removing the screws. 2nd answer---Probably anti-drumming material and the waxoyl shouldn't harm it. Haven't we been here before?

Not with the first question The second question i asked was different to the question ive asked before but thanks for the answers

To remove the interior door handle & window winder Les is correct - all that fastens it is the end screw - its just that as it's been on for so long it has got stuck so more force required to remove.

The 'door skins' are the steel outer covering of the door frames. This has been mentioned before..... You are fiddling with the door trim panels - and it all just pulls off. Be sure to treat the metal with Kurust or similar before applying the waxoyl - which should be thinned, heated and sprayed to get it into all the nooks and crannies. Again - we have been over all this with you several times before...........

I wasnt asking how to apply the waxoyl, i just wanted to know what the black tar was that was coming off on my brush thats all.

You have largely answered a question I wasnt asking ???

As the door trim panels have never been removed before, for a first timer, it is uncomfortable at tugging at something you havent done before. As for the brightware, they were a nightmare to just 'pull off', but I did it in the end.

Why dont you download the factory workshop manual?Its all in there.

I suffer with memory loss sometimes, so I apologise if I asked it before. But if I have already asked it, why bother making any reply to it?

he does try to though...... And - we answer questions (direct and implied) in order to HELP you!!

Seems you need an elementary course in rust prevention - first of all NEUTRALISE any rust - sand down and then Kurust in liberal doses. Then paint over with primer, POR 15, or whatever and topcoat.

Spray waxoyl in every nook and cranny, underneath all the car, in doors, along door bottoms, in sills, box sections, inside car floors, &c &c - the more the merrier - if it re-liquifies some 60 year old long banned bituminous compound even better (they don't make stuff like that anymore). Ensure all drain holes are clear.

But it does seem many members have already told you this before.

Just SPRAY EVERYTHING with waxoyl and sleep easy - it's what the rest of us do.

Just be careful if you go back to it later for some welding repairs - it flashes up like a forest fire !
