In the middle of a restoration on above, it has been off the road for 10 year, does anybody know the implications on putting it back on the road with the 1098 engine in the car, the log book says it is a Morris Mini Minor with a 803cc engine?
I have the V5 in my name but wonder when I re-tax it will it keep its reg No. XWA 657A and can I get a period re-reg or will it be given a Q plate, goodness for bid!
Open to any any constructive comments please.

if all you are changing is engine and gearbox then your original bits chassis, axle etc are enough to retain your current registration number. which should then allow you to change to an age related plate. i would however get the car correct defined as a minor as opposed to a mini first. i would also photo copy all the documents before sending them to the DVLA in swansea.. there have been a few nightmare stories of lost paper work.

Errrr - sounds like a 'ringer' ! The Mini was not produced until 1959....... And that registration number is not appropriate for 1956 - so has someone stuck a Mini number plate on the car and sold it to you with a Mini V5 document???? But of course that reg number may have been issued to the car when a previous owner transferred the original number away from the car..... I would check if the chassis number and engine number on the V5 match the numbers actually on the car.......

well def something wrong, the number dosent relate to a 1956,and if the original number had been sold, which is likely,,then It's illegal to put a number onto the car that indicates that it is newer than the original,(Or so I believe)The new number can only be either the same year or older,or a Q.So I would be suprised if that number has been issued to that car by the dvla.

to the best of my knowledge your understanding is correct however up until 20 or so years ago if a pre letter reg number was transferred the car would have been given an A reg plate or the other option is that the car came back to the uk in 1963 and was first registered in the UK then and would be given the appropriate plate for it is first year of registration in the UK hence the ex army "R" reg travellers that you can find.

If you are fitting a 1098 engine then you will need a 1098 box, diff and speedo if not already fitted

The real question is - why does it say 'Mini' on the reg document?? Your car is not a Mini - is it??

1956 4 door doesn't sound like a Mini.
