Bit hard to tell from that tiny picture........ But looks like it has already been 'plated' - and the rust has come through. Certainly cut out the rot - and see what lies behind....... then post up new pics !

It rather looks like that plate has just been plastered on on top of whatever destruction lies below..........

Hi,
Take a look at the floor area around the wheel arch too, also remove the carpet around the wheel arch and inspect behind the scuttle panel.
As BMC says that repair could disguise other horrors...

What would be the best stuff to treat this with apart from a bazooka

What i suggest you do grey111,is take off the sill cover,(if you can) the reason being the box section behind the sill cover etc runs into the front and rear arches, that way you will see if there is more damage.I had to cut mine out as mine was welded, when in fact it should be removed by undoing bolts underneath the outer finish cover.I wish you luck mate. Please send more pics as you go along.

Cheers Pete. Started removing sill cover and got the rear, spanner slipped and went straight through the sill! Looking further in found the nearby section of floor pan rotten too.
That'll teach me for not poking about properly with a screwdriver when buying this car
All stopped now until I get a roll over jig and get this body sorted properly!
Hope this might help anyone thinking of buying a project, don't leave ANYTHING to chance

Makes you feel rather deflated when you discover the extent

. All I can say is If you are going to do the job properly do it right!!
Had to do a small repair on mine last week,I got carried away and ended up completley undersealing the underneath of the car

Found this interesting patch today. O/s/r by back wheel. It has been welded MOST of the way round except the side nearest the petrol tank. From there on its all filler ha![frame]

Tricky, you might find a black&decker powerfile less vicious when grinding down welds, looks like your grinder has reduced the thickness of metal in places. I've used these powerfiles for a while now and wouldn't be without one!

I have only gone over it with a brass wire brush on the drill so far. Thanks for advice though

Actually I had in mind the picture from trickydicky regarding grinding but of course the powerfile would know doubt be handy for your work, especially if you need to get into awkward spaces!
