Wiper motor erratic working.

Just as the deluge began my wiper motor went on erratic/occasional work mode. Fiddling with the motor contacts prompts it into ( brief ) action but then it freezes. When it is working the end of the armature and bushes are illuminated by pale yellow shorting. Is this likely to be the carbon bushes having worn down and therefore they just need replacing? has anyone done this and is it straightforward?
Also tempted by the aftermarket two speed wipers - has anyone tried fitting these - with what results and after how many hours/days of frustrating labour?

Probably does need new brushes....easy to fit. But may as well check the drive and wheel boxes are well lubricated while you are in there.

fitting a 2 speed motor is straight forward if you have a minor with the clap hands it is straight forward and very much cheaper to do it your self, if you have a later car you need to modify parts from your current wiper motor.

Turned out to be the brushes - simple repair whilst cleaning commutator rings of carbon build up in between the segments. now runs rather nicely and much faster. Cleaned out all the gunky grease and put in a lighter grease which probably helps
