REAR WINDOW RUBBER SEAL CLIPS???

Hi guys,

I recently had the two rubber seals on my rear windows replaced, and they still leak!

I was told by fellow members in my club that metal clips supposed to hold the seals in place are missing?

Anyway, I contacted ESM where I got the seals from, and they said they no longer supply the clips with their seals.
Does this mean the seals dont need the metal clips, or ESM just no longer supply them?

The picture is of the metal clips in question, taken from a fellow members car.

Hi,
I didn't replace my clips either, so I will be interested to see what the advice is on this, as mine also leak, despite the application of screen sealant at the time. :(
Regards,
Mike.

Ahhhhh, tell me about, bloody leaks! Driving back from the garage of Friday, and it was throwing it down. Stuck in traffic, and could only watch as water trickled its way in!

If they dont supply clips anymore, or there is no need for them, Im going to have to use sealent, which I havent used yet as I dont know if the seals need re fitting etc.

Plenty posts on this subject. Basically, modern parts are crap, suppliers don't seem to care, so you have to make do. You'll need a tanker load of sealant for the rubbers supplied by ESM - and probably others. Having fitted 2 sets of side window rubbers in the last few years I bought proper car window sealant (not cheap) and this sorted the massive leaks that unsealed (as they should be) rubbers allowed.

Mine don't have the clips and don't leak at all. I got them from bull motif. No sealant used either. Am I lucky?

I bought a couple of tubes from ebay - used by the likes of auto windscreens etc.

They are a pain. 'DaisyMayFozz' seems to have had better luck with Bull Motif ones, so I may get a pair from them and see, nothing to loose by trying..............
My other and worse cause of water ingress seems to under my windscreen wipers where the wheel box emerges through the body for the wiper arm to attach. I believe there used to be a grommet to seal this but no-one seems to have them, and the gasket for the chrome cover on this doesn't seal it by itself. Any suggestions gratefully received......
Best wishes,
Mike.
