Could anyone please explain which number the DVLA need for my saloon to convertible body inspection?
Their form asks for the "STAMPED IN CHASSIS" VIN number. My car is a '59.The V5 Gives VIN/CHASSIS/FRAME number M.A2S3.727118.This is stamped on the ali plate riveted to the OS bulkhead. Not stamped on the chassis?I have another plate welded to the NS bulkhead with something like M(or possibly H) E28882.Its difficult to read properly. There is another large plate on the NS tie plate that reads Nuffield Metal Products Z.26535 289509.I assume the first one is the important one but its not stamped on the frame.

The chassis number only (without the prefixes) should also be stamped into the bulkhead at or near the point where the wiring loom exits/enters into the engine bay. Some are a bit hard to find and are located behind the loom itself and some have almost rusted away. With luck you'll find it there. This should, of course, match the number on the V5 :)

The number required by DVLA is the frame/chassis/vin nos. which is both stamped onto the oval plate AND into the b/head.

Prefixed by; MA2S3 7XXXXX

The number on the narrow plate at the top of the n/s b/head, prefixed by 'BME',should be screwed/riveted on,the NMP plate is welded on.
