Core Plug Removal

Can anyone advise on removing a core plug, please? Mine is leaking badly in a 1275 (midget motor). I removed the dizzy today and the oil canister for access and was hoping to insert screw into the hole and prise it out! Hole was size of screw hole but is now much larger and jagged. So any ideas how I remove before I go any further. Access is not really an issue. Photos would help too if you can advise

Thanks in advance

Russ

Largish screwdriver and lever it out.

make sure hole is big enough to get a stout screwdriver in, then wiggle the screwdriver around in a bid to make the core plug convex again (it's normally concave by nature of its design). So lever against the plug itself, and the block if needs be, but the key is to spread it about a bit, don't just work at one angle.

Plug on the 1275 block is different to the Minor, hole is bigger enough for screw driver, how easy should this come out?

It will be tight - but just ram in a screwdriver/chisel/crowbar - and put a (small obviously) lump of timber against the block to lever against!

Core plug removal - the elegant way :D for the 948cc with the "inverted" plug

Saw this on Youtube and thought I will give it a try, advantage is plug comes out clean & straight with no fuss

PS pardon if this has been shown before... moderators may remove this if it is found to be offensive

Drill & tap 6mm hole:[frame]Image[/frame]

Inset 6mm bolt into slide hammer chuck:[frame]Image[/frame]

Install slide hammer[frame]Image[/frame]

Two smacks and it's out:[frame]Image[/frame]

Grand if you have a slide-hammer! And on a Minor - no metric threads , please! 5/16" UNF would be good...

W/the engine in a vehicle there's no room for a slide hammer.
