Help with history for a Series II OHV reg: ODD 632

Post by Tony H »

Hi. I need help! I have recently bought ODD 632 a black 1954 Morris Minor SeriesII with the OHV engine. I only have a limited history to 2008 and I want to try and get back to '54. The car has spent most of its life in the South West and I would like as much help as possible. I would like to contact previous ownersTrevor Bray [Redruth?], Rodney Matthews [Cambourn?], Des Whyms [Penzance?] and RH Jones [Beaworthy?]. If anyone knows anything that might help me it will be much appreciated-Thanks

Have you tried DVLA? They do a form and for a fiver they will give you the name and address of every previous owner they have on record. It won't go back to 1954 I guess, but it should go further than 2008 unless it was locked up in an old barn somewhere for 40 years.

Thanks for the replys. I am waiting on the DVLA to give me the ownership history. I have some details on the names I have but I think some have moved addresses and some are ex directory etc.

I patiently did a very long winded free www.192.com search. It takes a while and you can find people. Sadly, I found very little interest with the previous owners, I even found someone who used it for the school run in the early sixties and they vagely remembered the car. I kept the letters of correspondance as they were quite interesting, everyone wrote long winded letters about their lives and didn't really touch on the car at all. I drove the car to Newtown in Wales where an old lady lives who owned it in 1985, she was pleased to see it and now travels to any local Minor shows to remind her of her youth. :D

I am thinking of doing this, but what would be a good reason? Also I once heard that you can also get photocopies of old logbooks and the like-is this the method to do so, and again what reason would be best.

Sorry for hijacking the thread Tony H

I asked for "Names and addresses of all previous keepers".

The reason I used was "to contact previous owners to tell them I am restoring their old car". Seemed to work as a load of photocopies of old log books came through the post in a A4 brown envolope.
