JLH certainly have the wings in fibreglass - ask them about a front panel. http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/store/ ... at&catId=4

You can lowlight a later model, by bolting on the old panels. Be aware that lowlights had a slight modification to the inner wings to clear the back of the headlights. You would need to modify this on a later model to suit. Best to look at a lowlight in the flesh to spot this difference, or some nice person might post a pic on here for you.

You'll also need the earlier bumper valance (mm/series 2) as they are a different shape to go round the front panel (glassfibre available and very good).
Hardest thing to get is the headlight rims, then the front panel (steel),and chrome grille, but the shrouds are available in glass fibre as are wings. Jonathon at JLH should be able to do you a glassfibre front panel as he took a mould off my steel lowlight panel.
You will have to trim the front of the inner wings to allow the front panel to sit correctly and access the headlights.

Your bonnet will fit. If you used a lowlight bonnet it wouldn't fit a later car, as they're different where the back meets the scuttle.

You should be able to use your existing radiator, and the radiator support panel for that matter.

Headlamps are different i believe... possibly smaller? PlasticOrange should be able to answer that one.

You might be able to modify the bumper, as the early one is thinner than a later one, but it depends on your ability!

Great pics and explanations. Someone should do a 'kit' ! Are lamps available anywhere? And parts to mount them - and rims ??

You could use motorcycle chrome headlight rims (5 3/4 inch), drill a hole either side for attaching to the front panel, then make up an adjusting bracket for the bottom mount and a small bracket for left right adjustment.
Unless you've seen a lowlight headlight rim this will sound a bit strange - I'll dig one out and take a pic.

Rims are like gold dust.

been thinking more about the front bumpers...

Did all lowlights have the 'square' front bumper, and then the highlight split screens (with cheesegrater grille) had the slightly different version of the later bumper? Or did some lowlights have that bumper too?

The real difference between the 'cheesegrater grille' bumpers and the '1000' bumpers seems to be that the early one has extra 'ears' to cover the bent bumper iron below, but the late one doesn't, so you can see a little bit of bumper iron. They both appear to be the same depth in the middle.

Just not sure if the bumper changed exactly with lowlight to highlight, or whether it featured on the later lowlights first?

Difference between the 'non-square' bumpers. In case lowridestepside wants to know!

Can anyone tell me if the bumper in the top picture would have been fitted to lowlights at all? Or were they all the square type?

I THINK there all meant to have the square type. although according to 'Morris Minor the official photo album' states: ''the bumpers were announced at the 1950 motor show but only introduced during Jan '51. As new bumpers were phased in just ahead of 'highlight' wings it should be possible to find a low light with one piece bumpers''

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

Will

A few lowlights had one piece bumpers and possibly early 4 doors -no lowlight 4 doors - had split bumpers.
All lowlights and 1951 highlights had short bonnets
The bumper blade shown in the photo of a late MM early S2 valance is a M1000 blade. MM overiders, fitted only to 4 doors were level with the edge of the grill. Their location in the photo obstructs the side lights

Thanks for clarifying the finer points of earlier minors. I'm a bit sketchy on those!

I do keep telling my father that the overiders obstruct the sidelights... and indicators at certain angles...
