Flasher unit questions

Bought the car half restored. The electrics were incomplete/disconnected/missing in places. Its a '59 that had semaphores that the previous owner decided to do away with(sacrilege I know). From a couple of old pics it seems that the previous previous owner had installed modern flashing indicators too at some time.I have looked at the excellent wiring diagram on this website but am a little confused. The flasher that was screwed to the dash wasnt wired up and has 3 terminals. The small loom from the top of the steering column has 4 wires 3 of which are for the flasher system and one for the horn.I have deduced that of the 3 one is the live feed from the flasher unit to the switch and the other 2(green and white and green and red)are the outputs to the indicator bulbs.I have made a wire from the ignition controlled fuse to the flasher unit and a wire from the flasher unit to the green on the mini loom.My questions(because its not working although a faulty flasher units not out of the question) are:what do I do with the 3rd terminal on the flasher(which is for the warning light)as I have no wires left feeding into the mini loom to feed to the warning bulb on the stalk ?Otherwise how does the warning light bulb get its power?Have I got the wrong type of flasher unit?Should I have one with only 2 terminals?
TIA
Mick

The flasher has 3 terminals to power the warning light - if the 'stalk' has a warning light - then it will have a wire feed to it! Barry shows it as being light green on a Minor .

Hmm mine has the warning light on the stalk but as I said only 3(that are relevant)wires in the small loom so no light green so no power for the warning light.I'll have to improvise somehow.

Well - it may be that the Mini stalk (if that's what you have ?) has the warning light connected to the two (left and right) wires. That works perfectly well - it 'earths' back through the wire that is NOT powered. Try it!

Well it looks identical to the stalk on my traveller.I'll have a look at that tomorrow. Its just that both the wiring and the column parts look original.New flasher unit will be here tomorrow so should be able to sort it out.

If you still have the trafficators then you can wire them from the same switch as the indicators. See diagram on http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk Tech Info, Indicator and trafficator wiring

Just to add that some of the 'New' flasher units available out there from the main parts suppliers are electronic based and can be problematic in a Minor.

Try and find some old fashioned bi metallic strip ones to use. It could save several hours of head scratching.............
