Rear springs front mounting

I intend to replace the rubber bushes on the front mounting point of the rear leaf springs as they are perished ,I can see that I will need to make a tool to stop the large headed pin from turning when I undo the nut , I imagine that I can get a thin open ended spanner on the rearmost small sized nut and bolt plate retainer, but what I cannot understand is how to access the front bolt head to enable it all to come apart and allow me to lower the spring to change the rubber bushes which I intend to relace with poly type

Any advice would be most welcome

This nut will usually undo without a special tool as the pin is an interference fit in the plate and is usually slightly rusted on by now. If not, some grinder disc changing tools have prongs that fit these holes.

Thanks for the info I am OK with the large pin fixing what I do not understand is the 1/4 dia front plate retaining bolt and how to get at its hexagon on the bolt head

hi, did this job just recently, i did manage get a thin spanner on both bolt heads, and once moving just held it still with the flat of a screw driver, ( plenty of penitrating oil first), as for the large pin, both of mine were solid with rust into the retaining plate and so easy to unbolt, once unbolted the plate complete with pin can be prised out using a old screw driver, when out the spring has to be slid rearwards to remove from the shoe, thus the axle and rear mounts will need undoing first, on stripping out the front is the last to remove and on assembly its the first, if this makes sence, i replaced all bushes, front and rear, took an afternoon, but well pleased with the result. regards steve

Thanks for the replies I think that when I do mine I will put a slot in thethreaded ends of the small bolts so that when I am tightening them up I can use a screwdriver and spanner to stop them from turning

Here's what I did. Dressing the washer with a file prevents it turning. An allen key fits in the gap at the front to locate the screw. I think I used epoxy at the time to hold it while installing the pin.[frame][/frame]

The Allen head bolt is the way to go - although I struggle to understand why Morris made this such a difficult mounting...........

I was just given a 66 Morris Minor 1000 in about 1000 pieces (friend is slightly OCD, so i know all the pieces are there). I am currently just trying to put it all together and fix anything wrong with it at the same time,(mainly badly rusted frame).

The front rear leaf spring bracket is so badly rusted that i cut the nut off of the bracket, expecting to tap the bolt/pin out and replace the bracket, however i can't get it to budge in the slightest. Is there some trick i should be using to get it out? it and the flooring above/around it is so rusted that it his hanging by a thread, should i just cut the bracket off?
