Just got my Traveller back from the welders, with a new, shiny MOT Only problem is now that before welding was done on the underneath of the drivers side there was a large panel gap, now, after some welding the gap is not enough and the door is catching the wing and sounds horrible!!! The gap needs to be a tiny bit more, is it recommended to shim behind the hinges,or is a small adjustment possible without taking the door off?

Not sure what welding was done, but it sounds as though they have either moved the A-post, or not braced the car propoerly when cutting out other sections. Poor workmanship.

As to whether you can use shims depends on what gap is available at the rear end of the door. If there is room, then JLH sell purpose made, laser cut shims in different thicknesses, highly recommended. Alternatively, you might be able to move the wing a little, but that depends on getting all the bolts undone, and not messing up the alignment with the bonnet and front panel. Shims will be easier, but if it was a professional "repair", then they should put it right - although that might be easier said than persuaded.

take it straight back and get them to sort it out.as long as you can prove it was not catching before they got it

It could be that they removed the wing to do the welding and put it back on slightly further towards the door.

Always hopeful for an easy fix!
