Hi there,
Can anyone help with advice on my boot lock on my moggy II Saloon. 1955 Split Screen. I put the key in, turn it 180 degrees and pull the key out and the handle still turns and opens the boot.
I go through the motions with it anyway incase anyone's noticing I'm not locking it

. It's not the best security but all I've got.
Thanks
Paul.

I did the same thing ;). I think it can be fixed, but you need to take the barrel out, there is a little rectangular bit that gets broken or worn that needs to be replaced. May be easier to get a new assy and live with the extra key. There is definitely a thread on it somewhere!

Try adjusting the boot catch

be careful altering the boot latch, make sure you can put it back again and don't slam it shut,'cause you may find it very very difficult to open it again,I know

I'm afraid it's not the catch. I can lift the boot and turn the key and the handle still turns.
Prob just need to replace the lock. Shame though, I've got a key for the door and a different one for the petrol cap and boot. now I'll end up with 3 different keys for the car. Think it's taking the P*** a bit.
Cheers anyway guys for the advice.
Paul.

Is it possible to buy a boot lock barrel? In that case, maybe you could switch a new barrel with the new lock, though I'd personally just live with the extra key(s) (I did

)

Har har.
I don't mind buying a new lock if that's the only solution.
On the other hand tho, I just realised i'm gonna have to remortgage the house to pay for the giant keyring.
Oh deary me ;-).

Just saved myself the price of a new lock by fitting a new catch/striker. The old one was so worn, that teamed with the play in the lock I could still open it.

Hi DaisyMay,
I take it when you hold your boot lid open and turn the key in it the handle doesn't turn? Mine still does so I think it's the lock itself that's knackered.
Cheers
Paul.

The handle does turn, not fully, but about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way its mean to turn when unlocked ( if that makes sense). It was enough to enable the boot to be opened. Hope that helps!

I had a similar problem on my previous Morris - I replaced the whole handle / lock assembly in the end. I think you can get a set of matching locks for the whole car from (I think) ESM, for about £50

I know that it is the bar in my boot lock that is broken, I will swap it with the bar from a spare handle

I thought it was probably the same with me so I bought a new lock from a guy on here in August. I only paid £5 for it so no great loss but the guy never sent it and has never been seen on here since. I only pity anyone that bought more expensive stuff from him.

I have taken the lock apart and it is the pin on the end of the lock barrel that is broken. I will have to swap the tumblers over with my spare lock to keep the original key.

Sounds like what's probably wrong with mine. If you get a chance could you post a photo of the pin on the lock barrel of the working one so I know what I'm looking for? Would be good to take mine apart and confirm if that's the reason mine is not working.
If you've already done it though, don't worry about it.
Thanks
Paul.
