Hi,

Just wondering what the most powerful engine is that could be put into a minor, without too many alterations, such as widening the car etc???

Something like a 2 litre or something???

the fiat twin cam 2ltr requires you to cut out and replace the front cross member.

the zetec engines require a chop into the area around the battery box and the front cross member

First thing is surely to define 'most powerful engine' ??? But actually - the thing that limits it all is 'how deep are the pockets' ??

Why would you want the most powerful engine?
Are you going drag racing?

I have seen articles on the fitment of a rover 3.5l V8.
I imagine a great deal of additional mods are needed, the old SD1 Rover engine I fitted once to a pilgrim sumo was only around 128bhp, not poweful by todays standards, but fitted to a car half the weight of the body it was removed from, had a top speed of "What the hell was that"? and a 0-60 time of "omigod" the power to weight ratio was interesting to say the least.
Then of course there are all the mods that can be done to said engine, including a rebore to 4.2 or by using the engine from the Rover Vitesse engine, which was in standard form more poweful again.
I love the sound of a V8 at idle personally,but I have grown very fond of the A series engine for different reasons and will probably keep my mog standard.
But to answer the question properly, maybe the definitive answer is on the custom register pages of this site.

I am thinking about it. In fact, I sort of asked the wrong question really. Im not wanting a super duper fast engine, just something reasonably quick, that would require little to no alterations to the actual car.

Why not go for a 1275/ 1300

if you want no alterations to the car then indeed the 1275 midget engine drops straight in.

the 1300 marina / ital engine requires new engine towers but they are still in the same position (i seem to recall), change the backplate and fan. If you decide to keep the marina / ital gearbox there are some alterations required to the gearbox bell housing and gearbox back mount in addition to the changes required just to fit the engine.

Good for you! Your Minor will be all the better for keeping it standard with an A series under the bonnet.

That doesn't mean you can't tune it though! ;-) 100bhp is possible from a Turboed Minor.
