Electronic Speedometer

Post by jmcar »

I'm toying with the idea of fitting an electronic speedometer in place of the standard one in the centre of the dash on my 68 Traveller - Any ideas as to what products are suitable for this application?

I am then thinking also that I would have a separate 2" gauge for the fuel gauge and also separate mountings for the warning lights. These could all be housed along with my other additional gauges - temp, voltage and oil pressure in the drivers storage compartment behind the steering wheel.

Any ideas greatfully received and I do appreciate this wouldn't appeal to the purists out there but then my car is pretty non-standard anyway with many modifications making it more to my liking as a daily driver.

what gearbox have you got? if you have a ford type 9 then..

and then the speedo head..

i would imagine the most difficult part will be the speedo sensor if you do not have a type 9 box..

but it might be worth giving this guy on ebay a call..

@charlie_morris_minor - perfect, just what I was looking for and yes I have the Ford type 9 gearbox so should be fairly straight forward.

I may give the guy a call though as I really would like a speedo head that is the same size as the original to fit in the hole in the dash 80mm is just over 3 inches I think which is on the small size, the original speedo looks around 5 inches? I'll go out and measure tomorrow :)
