Front suspension noises
Good evening all,
For the last few weeks poor old Boris has had a creaking/ squeaking sound coming from the front passenger side whenever we go over bumps. It has now got to the stage where it'd more than likely creak even if we were to go over over a pierce of paper - not good.
After giving the suspension a good greasing I researched potential reasons behind it and am still not 100% sure as to what it could be. Firstly, we replaced the rubber bushes on the wishbone tie-bar to polyurethane ones. This didn't help so we put some white grease on them and again no change.
There is no play on the wheel and whilst jacked up today I gave the King pin and trunnions a watering. I just went for a drive and there is now no creaking suggesting it could be one of the trunnion rubber bushes?? Or is that unlikely?
Would the next cause of action be to change the trunnion bushes to polyurethane ones?

Re: Front suspension noises
Are the eyebolt bushes on the rear of the car? If so, then no. Is this something that could make a difference to the front?
Re: Front suspension noises
Eyebolt is at the front - connection of the lower suspension arm to the chassis leg. Yes - fit poly bushes and also at the top trunnion where it attaches to the damper arm. But also urgently check the bolts holding the front dampers to the crossmember. And -check the chassis leg for cracking where the eyebolt fixes through......

Re: Front suspension noises
Excellent, thank you
I have a feeling I checked the bolts holding the front dampers to the crossmember a couple weeks back, but I shall check again tomorrow and then make an order for the poly bushes
If the bolts are looking fine would your guess be that the creaking would be coming from the rubber bushes?
Thanks again

Re: Front suspension noises
Squeaking at the front is eyebolt bushes, change then before the eye bolt is worn oval by the pin! and both have to be replaced as well as the bushes.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Re: Front suspension noises
Creaking is usually something rather more ominous........ than squeaking noises.....

Re: Front suspension noises
Check damper oil. On the car I bought there was a rattling/banging noise whenever going over bumps. Turned out the damper was absolutely bone dry. Filled it up and the problem disappeared instantly.
Re: Front suspension noises
I had a similar issue on the nearside front of mine and replacing pretty much all of the bushes I could see with poly ones was my solution although as per the suggestion above it was actually the eyebolt causing my squeaking, determined by going through and dousing each of the rubber bushes in turn with WD40 then pushing down on the top of the front wing to see if the noise went away. Like I said though, I replaced all with poly bushes - highly recommended.chickenjohn wrote:Squeaking at the front is eyebolt bushes, change then before the eye bolt is worn oval by the pin! and both have to be replaced as well as the bushes.

Poly bushes have been ordered and on their way

Thanks for all the help

Re: Front suspension noises
If its a squeak it could be the poly bushes themselves - my rear ones put up a hell of a din until I pulled them all out again and slapped red grease all over them
