HI all

I have just bought a 1967 Traveller and have removed a very tatty fascia tray (parcel shelf?). Would it have had one fitted originally and where would I buy one if it did please?

yes it wopuld have had a parcel shelf
late ones can be bought from any moggie shop, and satisfying when done LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was only the late gpo vans that did not have a parcel shelf

If you removed the old one did you not notice the bulkhead fixings if original they are called bifuricated rivets which are a real pain to get at (did you not notice) and often when replaced they are replaced with small nuts and bolts.

This tray was hanging off and had at some time had a piece of plywood glued to it's underside, it fell off quite easily<g>

See above, it literally fell off into my hands! I will however have to make up a metal support for it as that was not there. My husband is a skilled welder so he can fabricate something.

Re the parcel shelf, you would be advised to try for a second
hand support bar as it is shaped to accept a round section sorbo
moulding which is then covered with rexine. All of the parts are
available new from Newton Commercial ( phone 01728 832881)
for parts list.

Willie- dont know how your parcel shelf was but my brand spankin new one was just like carboard -so i used it to form a template and cut one from plye,Covered it in nice black vinyl and fitted the rounded former to it Bingo one new strong parcelshelf, But honestly why are things never produced to last-well for a few years at least. Ruth Congratulations on your purchase of a Traveller a wise choice -but then i would say that as Twinkle my Traveller in my eyes is a kool car and she knows it, well she is a very vain car,What shade of colour is she-he and of course have you or your husband given she-he a name-(well one you could use on here )Regards Twinkle *get her *and a very poor BILL.

Hello Twinkle and Bill

I have always wanted a Traveller and I got her last week I have called her Dolly but that isn't what my husband calls her I'm afraid! She had a 12 month MOT when we picked her up but within hours she had all her seats, upholstery , trim, carpets, seats etc removed and her floor painted with a coat of chassis black paint and joints in the steel liberally sprayed with waxoyl. She is back in one piece now and the adjustments to clutch, brakes etc almost complete. Her previous owner had done quite a lot of work on panels and paint but the finishing touches have to be done and general tidying done.

I should hope so but as many are modified they tend to have more unusual names like the Black Pickup from Bedford `Black Overdose` that I havent seen for a few years.

Hello Ruth -Sounds like fun and games at your house-buying a traveller means that life will never ever be the same and when out and about your car will certainly turn heads and you will notice how many people will smile, Very nice colour- Almond Green-My old girl is Snowberry White a bit of a pain to keep clean- still if i say so myself she does look good on summer days, Best Regards to you all DOLLY and co from Twinkle and co.

lasted 47 years and I only changed it because I changed the heater.
Perhaps you shouldn't keep your wallet on it..too heavy!

We also have an old Mini Cooper S which has the same effect, she is a very noisy but fast car and has had lots of modifications. Dolly is jostling with her for best spot in the garage ATM<g> Dolly, I expect, will remain as original as possible and turn heads anyway.

WILLIE--YES The original lasted one lasted 47 years and thats what i mean bet your new one wont-they dont make things now to last as they use to -or do any of you think that the products we buy to replace original ones that have worn out are as good or maybe are better-for instance *CHROME* Or maybe Willie is correct and i need to lighten my wallet (dont think so ) What do you think.Twinkle and BILL.

R uth Dolly to stay original thats great , You just cant beat a original tidy car-At our bring your car night we had some twenty or so cars that had been restored to some extent but the one that had us looking at ( under the bonnet )was a 1954 Black split screen-car boot buy - YES car boot buy which had belonged to an old gent and purchased by a club member who felt sorry for the dear old car.He is so very proud of this His car and we at the club admire him for saving such a honest and never restored classic.Yes you must leave Dolly as original as possible, .Best Regards Twinkle the Traveller and BILL.
