Snapped Chassis/Gearbox member

Just been under Trundle to check out speedo cable issue and noticed the passenger side gearbox support member has broken free from the chassis!!!!

I know this is not normal, but how serious is it? I have been driving it for a while like this I suppose, though the broken metal shows no signs of NEW rust. Is it possible to weld a new piece into the chassis rail, or is a full replacement necessary? Is this a common problem?

Can you post a picture or 2 so we can see exactly what you mean?

The gearbox member should be bolted to the chassis - two bolts each side. The chassis should have two captive nuts each side. I wonder if a couple of bolts have gone missing rather than a failure of metal but if you can take a picture of what you mean it will be easier to understand.

I wouldn't drive it too far until you get this sorted out...... Pictures will indeed help us advise you.

Four bolts each side, two at the top, two at the bottom

The bolts ( or set screws) are still attatched to the cross member and it has pulled a chunk of the chassis, where these are attatched, off. I am still technologically challenged and cant seem to understand how to get pictures from one part of the computer onto the Internet

Well - it is going to be necessary to weld in new metal if a piece has been 'torn out'. May as well start investigating just far how the rot has spread. Get a hammer and chisel out and start tapping......

if you take the gear box cover off the floor you can see inside the chassis leg,you will then see how far the rot if any has spread and how much welding will be required
