Slowly. Dribble a little in and allow for any air to come out - bit like burping a baby!

Then slowly increase the flow until you have filled up.

Don't stick the nozzle in too far!

Just fill it slowly Alan! ;-)
But I know what you mean, the convertible does the same thing! Yet my Traveller is less susceptible to splash back.
BTW, have done all the jobs on your car now.

BTW, a quick plug- Faversham 999 has a new venture moving cars on his transporter. He is a very nice, totally reliable chap and very classic friendly/knowledgeable. And a great character to boot.
recommended if you need a classic car or some other type of car moving in the South East of England.

I've improved this on my 4 door using some copper brake pipe jammed in the air escape part of the filler neck and bent so that the end finishes up near the top of the tank when the filler pipe is refitted.
3 pipes would work even better, quite a lot of air is forced out of the tank as the petrol goes in.
The same fix worked even better on a traveller although the cut out on the forecourt pump still doesn't work and it spits back when full.

Don't stand behind the filler pipe
