Hello everyone,

I was wondering if theres a record of how many splitscreen travellers are around? IS there already a thread on the subject? What do we think they're worth at the moment? I'm suddenly interested as i'm going to see one for sale.

Regards
David

The website How Many Left says there are a total of 31 1954-56 Travellers taxed or on SORN, I appreciate some of these will be the later model though.

The value as ever will depend entirely on the condition and originality of the car. Take some pictures and ask opinions on here.

There is a register for series 11 travellers, I think its still ran by Mark Howard. As for value while they are certainly a much rarer car to find they really arent worth any more than a 1000. When I got mine there was estimated to be only about 20 or so left, but theres got to be more than that on the road not to mention the projects that people have stashed away to start working on. There was a project one on ebay last week with a start price of £1000 which didnt get a bid

Just out of interest mine is the newest one known, only another 20 odd series 11 were made before 1000 production began.[frame]Image[/frame]

There are more around than 30, over the past 10 years I have watched at least 10 come up on ebay {Many in need of restoration) and have seen probably 20 different ones at rallys, so think of all the ones that are around the world and the country. I would love to know how many are on the register, as I am sure the chap who runs that must have a good idea! Let's hope he reads this and will let us know :D

Phil, maybe we will get a better turn out at the National this year! I think there was about 6 series 11 travellers there last year

Well my friend ended up buying the traveller! It's a '56. Appears to have 27,000 original miles but i'll have a look through the history, (of which there is loads) to try and authenticate this. Its had some restoration work, new wing and door skin, new headlining and new seat covers. Still has the long gearstick which I believe is the 803 gearbox? Cant find any rot, just some surface rust in front of the rear wheel under the small piece of timber at the bottom. Runs nicely.

One thing i'm sure someone on here will know about, it has a clock in the rear view mirror. The seller seems to think this was an optional extra when the car was new. Anyone know about this? I'll get a photo up soon.

The wood is rotten but I will make new parts where I can get a pattern or buy new where the wood is too rotten to copy. Floorpan doesnt appear to have any welding although the two square panels that sit on top of the front wheel arches have been replaced. It also appears to have a larger radiator than my other moggies. It's had new indicators added but the trafficators are still there.

It was an optional accessory - and if it works it will probably be quite a rare item. I have not seen one working in over 30 years. Here's a photo from an old period accessory list - I guess it will look something like this.[frame]Image[/frame]

I saw a new old stock one on ebay make about £200 :o

The traveller sounds like a good buy, we need some pics!! The series 11 has a taller radiator than the minor 1000 but the core is the same size.

Thats the clock! I'm pretty sure it's not currently working. Does it need a battery? I'll have a look. The car is at my parents now until I work out what to do with it. It wasn't my intention to buy it. I was just interested to see it as it was local and thought I could give an interested MMOC member some info and save them the drive.

I've been thrugh the history and found at least £8000 worth of reciepts just from '98-'99. Headliner, door skin, wood etc.

Next question: It has it's original gearbox. Is it an 803 gearbox? I cant seem to get it in reverse. It moves in all 4, forward gears but I cant engage reverse. Any ideas?

for reverse push the lever to the right, to the stop then lift upwards as you move it still over right then down towards you.

Hope that makes sense. yes it would be an 803cc gearbox if original with this type of stop and the long gear lever

Thanks, I'll try that. It is an 803 box with the long stick. And the car is the one on car and classic. Theres two listings on there with different years listed. One with photos, one without. They are the same car though. Dont know why he listed it twice. It's deffinately a '56 though.

Here's the new traveller....in need of some TLC. Sadly lost its original plates.

And this is the rare optional extra. The mirror with integrated clock.
[frame]Image[/frame]

The interior is mostly good as it was re-upholstered in 1998. For some reason the drivers seat has been replaced with a 60's one. Anyone got a green seat to match the ones in the photo?
