diff whine...
any idea what i can do to shut my diff up? drained and refilled it with a litre of ep 90 (assumed this was enough but please correct me if i am wrong) and then put some 'gearbox/diff quietener' stuff in to no avail. i dont mind the noise as long as it isnt going to cause an accident down the line...

I believe an old trick was to fill it with banana skins and/or sawdust.......... Not seriously suggesting you try this! It would need taking out and resetting the pinion into the crown wheel. And of course - check the bearings...... Detailed in the Workshop Manual although with the usual selection of special tools required. You would probably have to just do it by trial and error.

is it alright whining though? i plan on getting a new one when i can afford it, hopefully a 3.9

Within reason - obviously we can't know how loud the whine is - but normally, yes the only risk is to your sanity.......

Re: diff whine...
don't worry about it,if you can stand the noise,I once had a hillman minx with a whine had it for three years sold it to my friend who had it for another 5 years still whining, still going strong, turn the radio up and just enjoy the drive
