I know before anybody thinks or says it a right Dipstick, anyway the question i have is, is the dipstick on the 803 engine different to that of the 948/1098 engine?

Same as 948 - but for the 1098 they introduced a plastic entry 'sheath' and I believe a longer stick to go with that.

For sure 948 / 1098 dipsticks are different. Don't know about 803 ones though.....

Thanks guys, looks like i'm on the hunt for rocking horse manure then, unless anyone has one kicking around. failing that adapting a 1098 stick somehow graduations would be the problem i can see with that.

Just drain and refill with the correct volume of oil (as per manual) - and then mark the stick!

Are you after an 803 dipstick? I have one from my knackered 803 if you're interested.

Could I also just check that the 1257 midget dipstick is the same as the 1098? Thanks

My 948 dipstick goes to the bottom of the sump with a clunk. There is no stop up higher where it goes into the case. It has the full mark 1+7/8 inch from the bottom. Does that give me a correct reading?
Thanks
David

All the 948 engines I've had do just that- the dipstick drops to the bottom of the sump, unlike on the 1098. I think it's normal. Some of mine have had 'max' and 'min' marks, and some only 'max' (earlier engines perhaps?).

Mine (948) just says 'full' then an arrow. Sorry if i'm being pedantic, but should it say max?

No- it's my bad memory. It should say 'full', not 'max'. It's just the same as one I had on an early 948, with the arrow as well.
