Can I fit a 1275cc Engine to a 948cc Backplate and gearbox .

You 'can' but it will likely break the backplate and the weak gearbox won't last long. May be some clutch clearance problems - you will just need to figure that out at the time.....

yes. i'd use the gearbox from the 1275 if you have it, it would be a ribbed box. as said, you may encounter difficulty in the clutch mechanics
