Hi all,
I asked a question not so long ago, but didnt have any images to explain what section I was on about, so didnt know that those who replied knew exactly which section it was.
The image below shows the section that has rust, that is rust from the inside, behind the interior panel, due to both side windows leaking.
I plan to treat the rust with Kurust, then waxoyl over, I am however, just wondering (for future reference) if its possible to cut this entire section out (knowing its apart of the monocoque shell) and replace it??? I cant seem to find any of these panels though to replace it with.
If not, is it possible to weld in new metal, but how, for example would I go about getting the curve right and that raised line towards the top???
Thanks[frame]

I had a similar issue with my 2 door saloon and found this panel is not now available. We looked at several ways and one was to find a scrapped car with a good panel to cut out but you need to take it fom the door pillar to the rear wing to get the joins and welding in less noticeable places - not an easy repair and quite time consuming.

Thanks, good to know that.
The rust isnt too far gone though, so will just use Kurust and waxoyl.
So is this area that Ive highlighted a panel then? Its just on the outside I cant see any place where its welded, as it is completely smooth right around the top of the boot right around to the passanger door???
Do you know if its possible to get a panel beater to make this panel from scratch???

If you have deep enough pockets any panel can be made but this is a very complex panel with lots of curves and the raised part plus were it joins to the bottom of the car, under the back wing and under the rear window.
If you open the door you will see a line of spot welds were the panel joins the door post and it then is the bottom of the window and under the panel were the rear window is and back too the wheel arch. Much bigger than it looks hence the difficulty in replacing it as you will undoubtebly uncover more rust as you do the work.
If you can stop the windows leaking and treat the rust it will possibly be OK for a long time?

So as long as I use kurust and waxoyl, it should be fine, as the rust has been killed? Does everycar of this age have some rust where you cant see it then?
By the way, I have been advised different things, but what would you use, Kurust or Waxoyl, or both.
Iread that waxoyl kills the rust as well, so was really hoping just to brush this on the entire panel.

Most old cars (even modern ones) will have areas of rust you can't see.
Make sure the windows have been sealed then use the Kurust then use waxoyl to help keep the rust at bay then just check it every so often to see if it is getting any worse. Once rust has a hold the only way to fix this is to replace the metal but the Kurust should help to put the job off for another day.

Ah good, may just use waxoyl as is claims to kill the rust. It also has rust inhibitors in it. What is the difference then between waxoyl and kurust?
