Valve cup

Post by Bit of Both »

Hi
Can anyone tell me the way the valve cup goes into the valve body in the master cylinder? Which side faces the valve body - the open end or the closed end?

Do you mean the small metal cup with holes in it that takes the rubber "top hat" seal and sits in the end of the spring? If so, then the open end faces towards the rear of the cylinder.

Yes - I want to know the direction of the "top hat". When inserted in the metal cup - is the metal cup open or closed after inserting the 'top hat'?

Hi
Thank you - I do have that, but I cannot make out which way it should go. In other words, which side the open side of the cup should face.

You will notice that the metal 'housing' has a recessed ring around its base, the ring around the rubber seal seats in it.

The open ends of both the metal cup and the rubber top hat face to the rear, away from the spring. As noted above, the top hat sits inside the cup. If you fit disks, then the top hat should be omitted.
